Sorry for my lack of coverage on the debates, I felt as though Mitt Romney had done a good enough job of exposing the lies of President Obama.  There are a few though that he was unable to, or did not feel the need to address from this third debate. I am here to offer up my opinions on these issues.

660.) President Obama tried to once again perpetuate the myth that Mitt Romney wanted to shut Detroit down.  Here is the part of the debate that I am referenceing.

ROMNEY: I said these companies need to go through a managed bankruptcy, and in that process they can get government help and government guarantees. But they need to go through bankruptcy to get rid of excess cost and the debt burden that they’ve built up. And fortunately, the president took —
OBAMA: Governor Romney, that’s not what you said!
ROMNEY: Fortunately, the president —
OBAMA: (stammering)
ROMNEY: We can take a look at —
OBAMA: I, uh, uh, ah, ah…
ROMNEY: You can take a look at the op-ed.
OBAMA: Governor Romney, you did not
ROMNEY: You can take a look at the op-ed.
OBAMA: You did not say —
ROMNEY: I’m still speaking.
OBAMA: — that you would provide governor (sic) help.
ROMNEY: I said we would provide guarantees and that was what was able to allow these companies to go through bankruptcy, to come out of bankruptcy. Under no circumstances would I do anything other than to help this industry get on its feet. And the idea that has been suggested that I would “liquidate” the industry? Of course not. Of course not.
OBAMA: Let’s check the record.
ROMNEY: That’s the height of silliness.
OBAMA: Let’s check the record!
ROMNEY: I have never said I would “liquidate” the industry.
OBAMA: Governor —
ROMNEY: I want to keep the industry going and thriving.
OBAMA: — the people of Detroit don’t forget. Anybody out there can check the record. Governor Romney, you keep trying t’, y’know, airbrush history here.”

So who is right? Did Mitt Romney want to support the United States automakers, or is President Obama right, did Mitt Romney want to watch as Detroit went down in flames? The only way to solve this mystery is to look at the op-ed in question. The following is from Mitt Romney’s 2008 New York Times Op-ed.

“If General Motors, Ford and Chrysler get the bailout that their chief executives asked for yesterday, you can kiss the American automotive industry goodbye. It won’t go overnight, but its demise will be virtually guaranteed.

Without that bailout, Detroit will need to drastically restructure itself. With it, the automakers will stay the course — the suicidal course of declining market shares, insurmountable labor and retiree burdens, technology atrophy, product inferiority and never-ending job losses. Detroit needs a turnaround, not a check.

But don’t ask Washington to give shareholders and bondholders a free pass — they bet on management and they lost. . . .

The American auto industry is vital to our national interest as an employer and as a hub for manufacturing. A managed bankruptcy may be the only path to the fundamental restructuring the industry needs. It would permit the companies to shed excess labor, pension and real estate costs. The federal government should provide guarantees for post-bankruptcy financing and assure car buyers that their warranties are not at risk.

In a managed bankruptcy, the federal government would propel newly competitive and viable “

There it is in black and white, Mitt Romney did not want to abandon the United States Automotive industry. President Obama was wrong.

661.) The big thing for me in the final debate was how President Obama tried to belittle Mitt Romney. President Obama had this to say to Mitt Romney “Governor, we also have fewer horses and bayonets because the nature of our military’s changed. We have these things called aircraft carriers where planes land on them. We have these ships that go underwater, nuclear submarines. And so the question is not a game of Battleship where we’re counting ships. It’s — it’s what are our capabilities.” He acted like he was a child, explaining to him what an Air Craft Carrier was, and what submarines are.  It was just more evidence in how immature President Obama actually is.  When faced with a challenge, rather than simply state what his record is, he has to act like a school yard bully and mock the person who dares question him. A little fact check is in order I believe.
a.) The United States of America still issue bayonets to every Marine.
b.) The United States Navy called for a 10% increase in the number of ships in the fleet, yet President Obama wants to shrink the size of the navy.
c.) The United States Army for the first time sense 1942 does in fact have soldiers on horses in war zones. Not to mention horses are used commonly in millitary funerals.
d.) How could we be playing battle ship, there are currently no active battle ships in the United States navey. Well… unless you count the U.S.S. Consitution an active duty sailing vessel.
