Debbie Wasserman Shultz, the DNC chair went on live TV, and apparently forgot to do any form of research before opening her mouth. Apparently Ms. Shultz does not feel that she needs to be properly briefed before speaking on behalf of the entire Democrat Party.
Ms. Shultz appeared on Ralston Report, a television show that airs in Las Vegas and Reno. She went on the air following the competing rulings early this week dealing with subsidies on the federal exchanges. Ms. Shultz said that she was confident the Supreme Court would make the “right” decision, then followed up with “Just take a state like Nevada, where you have a governor who refused to implement a state exchange and as a result people who get Affordable Care Act healthcare plans are getting them on the federal exchange”
Well the host of the show, Jon Ralston, stopped Ms. Shultz dead in her tracks, “Let me just stop you for a second, because you’re misinformed about that,. [Nevada Gov.] Brian Sandoval put in a state exchange. He did, so whoever briefed you on that is wrong. He did put in a state exchange. He was the first Republican governor to do that”
Ms. Shultz tired to brush off this Biden-esk gaff and simply responded with “OK. That’s not even the point I’m making. I stand corrected. I’m not from Nevada”
Okay before I go any further, can I just say that this woman makes my head hurt. If you are trying to make a point in a debate, make sure that you actually have the facts straight. Then if by some fluke it turns out that your information is wrong, don’t try to blow it off. I cannot conceive of a mind that thinks that “Ok that is not even the point I’m making” is a valid defense in this situation. Her argument was that the evil Republican governor refused to set up an exchange so the people of Nevada, which are the only people who are watching the show, are forced to go to the federal exchange. She was trying to make a political point, she was playing party politics. There was a camera on her, and she had a chance to attack a member of the GOP. If she was not trying to argue that because the mustachioed GOP governor of the Nevada did not set up an exchange, people are forced to go to the federal exchanges, what point was she trying to make?
This is embarrassing. If I was a Democrat I would be furious at this appalling performance by Ms. Shultz.
