In Denver Colorado students stormed out of class to protest the audacious plan proposed by the school board. The villainous demons on the school board had the bold face audacity to propose a change in the school’s curriculum. These heartless thugs dared to propose changing the school’s history curriculum to focus on promoting citizenship, patriotism, and respect for authority. Starting with advanced placement history a committee would review course materials and text books to make sure that they “promote citizenship, patriotism, essentials and benefits of the free-market system, respect for authority and respect for individual rights” and to ensure that they do not “encourage or condone civil disorder, social strike or disregard of the law”.
Well this proposal has just outraged the students and apparently the teachers in this district. The students walk out Tuesday September 24, followed a “sick out” from teachers that shut down two high schools in the area. The students had several things to say about this proposal, the one that stuck out the most in my mind was from a 17 year old student. This student said, “I don’t think my education should be censored. We should be able to know what happened in our past”. How twisted must someone’s view of their own country be, that they assume that promoting patriotism and citizenship somehow means that they are being subjected to massive censorship? This is an individual whose mind has already been poisoned against his homeland. This statement makes the assumption that there is more bad than good in the history of this country. To assume that trying to teach a positive message of the United States means nothing but censorship, means that one believes that there are no redeeming qualities to their country.
Julie Williams, a member of the school board, had this to say on the issue, “There are things we may not be proud of as Americans,” she said. “But we shouldn’t be encouraging our kids to think that America is a bad place.” Ms. Williams is exactly right. There are many things in this nation’s past that we should not be proud of. Dark points, evil deeds that we should be disgusted by. The progressives have a point, we should teach about these times in our history however, they want it to end there. They want our nation defined by its most wicked of deeds. They are wrong. It is not these dark valleys that define us, it is never the lows that define us. No, the greatness of our nation, of us as a people, is defined by how we moved forward. How we rectified the wrongs, how we came together to rise above the darkness. If the United States was a wicked nation, we would not have ended slavery. If the United States was a despicable nation, we would not have passed the civil rights amendment. If the United States was what the progressives claim us to be, we would not have survived to this point. We would have succumbed to the pressures of the world long ago. Unjust societies crumble like leaves in the wind.
Progressives do not want a positive message of the United State being taught, because that makes it much harder for them to destroy it, and rebuild it into their socialist utopia of mediocrity and misery. They do not want the lessons of how we moved forward, and changed for the better to be taught. Probably because it was big government progressives who fought these changes every step of the way. It was the Democrat Party that stonewalled the 13th amendment. It was a progressive who founded Planned Parenthood as a eugenics project to stem the growth of the African American Population (Margret Sanger). It was a progressive who re-segregated the military prior to WWI (Woodrow Wilson). It was a progressive who made it illegal to speak out against the government (Woodrow Wilson). It was a progressive who locked up the Japanese in internment camps in World War II (FDR). It was progressives who tried to stop equal rights legislation in the 60’s. Perhaps the progressives do not want the whole truth taught about American History because they know that it will reveal them for the racist bigots that they truly are. Perhaps progressives do not want the children of this country to know the truth because the first thing the nation did to set things right, was removing the progressive swine from office.
It is a shame that these students have had their minds so corrupted by the lies of the progressive movement. I truly wish that they could see the greatness in this country. Yes there is weakness, but deep down inside of every American lies a courage to stand up and face down injustice. America is not great because we have stolen from the rest of the world. America is great because we are good hearted people. America is great because America is free, we are free to innovate, to create, to explore. It is these freedoms that have led to the United States creating half of the world’s wealth, in under 300 years. Half the churches in France are older than our country. I hope the school does not cave. These are lessons that must be taught. The TRUTH must be made known. The whole truth, not just the truth that keeps a light shining on the progressives, and our eyes away from their shadows.
